Every January, Lions and volunteers rev up their snowmobiles and hit the trails for one purpose — to help thousands of people live with dignity and independence.
Donations raised through this annual movement directly support the Lions Foundation’s programs, which provide vision and hearing care, financial assistance, and essential support for individuals and families in need.
Journey for Sight is a long-standing tradition of service, friendship, and hope that unites communities in making life better for others.
Our Story
The Journey for Sight began in 1983, when two Lions Club members from Birtle, Manitoba, rode their snowmobiles to The Pas, raising just $200 for a local charity.
Taking inspiration from this courageous ride, three years later, the Journey for Sight movement was born. What started as a single sled and rider quickly grew into one of the most iconic charitable traditions.
Today, riders set out simultaneously from Northern, Southern, and Western Manitoba, stopping in towns and communities along the way to raise funds and share the mission. Over the course of several days, they cover a combined distance of more than 1,000 kilometres before meeting in the final destination point – Brandon.
Every dollar raised through Journey for Sight helps people in need — from children gaining clear vision through KidSight screenings, to families supported through hearing programs, to individuals regaining independence and dignity.
Your support keeps these life-changing programs running — and there are two simple ways to make a difference:
